Daewoo to operate 128 BRT buses – KPK Govt decides

The government of KPK  has hired Daewoo Pakistan to run Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) buses.

The KPK government has taken a decision of outsourcing the operation of buses. It would be working in the provincial capital Peshawar. Daewoo Pakistan will be taking care of the operational matters of BRT

The private bus service has been given a contract of twelve years.

In a meeting of TransPeshawar’s board, the decision was taken as per a statement issued by the spokesperson of the company on Wednesday.

The statement mentions that the Daewoo Pakistan Express Bus Service Limited was chosen as the vehicle operating company (VOC).

The VOC or the operator would be responsible for managing:

  • The refueling of buses
  • The appointment of drivers
  • The bus maintenance
  • The staff training

TransPeshawar is required to appoint two main service providers for operating the BRT, which includes the VOC card and the BRT System Control and Good Services.

There are 2 workshops of BRT. One is in Chamkani and the other one in Hayatabad.

They were specially built to service the BRT and will be equipped with facilities for fueling, cleaning, vehicle maintenance workshops with routine spare parts for the BRT buses.

Number of Buses

The Chamkani depot is the larger of the two depots. A total of 128 buses including 93 buses which are 12 meters long.

And 35 articulating buses which are 19 meters long are stored and maintained. Buses here will be operated by Daewoo Pakistan.

Once the schedule of the buses is finalized by TransPeshawar, the service provider or operator would operate the buses as per schedule.

For ensuring safer commute for the female passengers, the VOC would make sure that at least fifteen percent of their hired staff is female.

Additionally, the operator would be required to appoint the locals, especially the ones who have been associated with the public transport system in Peshawar.
