‘Game of Thrones’ Creators Leave HBO for $200 million Netflix Deal

Creators of Game of Thrones; David Benioff and Dan Weiss, have signed a $200million content deal with Netflix.

The duo has signed a $200 million multi-year pact with Netflix. Under the deal, David Benioff and Dan Weiss will stop producing new content for HBO and create their upcoming content on Netflix instead.

The chief content officer of Netflix, Ted Sarandos confirmed the news of the duo coming aboard the streaming service, saying:

“We are thrilled to welcome David Benioff and Dan Weiss to Netflix. They have delighted audiences worldwide with their epic storytelling. We cannot wait to see what their imaginations will bring to our members.”

According to the duo,

“For more than a decade, we have had a beautiful run with HBO and we are grateful to everyone there who made us feel like home. Over the past few months, we have spent many hours talking to Cindy Holland and Peter Friedlander, as well as Ted Sarandos and Scott Stuber.”

They also said:

“We remember the same shots from the same ’80s movies and we are excited about the same storytelling possibilities. Netflix has built something amazing and astounding, we are honored they invited us to join them.”

The duo hasn’t revealed any of the projects that will go on Netflix. For now, they are working on the next Star Wars trilogy.

Despite this long term deal with Netflix, Benioff and Weiss are still creating their Star Wars trilogy that has been in development for over a year. Star Wars film will be the next installment to be released after Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Its current release date is 16th December 2022.
