Nasir Butt’s action comes under contempt of court – Here is why.
- Says Nasir Butt’s action comes under contempt of court can lead to severe consequences.
- Says if the recording was presented at very first instance, it would be admissible but now, it isn’t.
- Accountability Court Judge Arshad Malik rejected the claims of Maryam Nawaz saying serious allegations were made against him.
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Vice-President Maryam Nawaz Sharif held a press conference in Lahore on Saturday, July 6, 2019.
During the press conference, she has released a video clip showing an accountability court judge admitting to a lack of evidence against former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in the Al-Azizia Steel Mills reference.
Here is what Farogh Naseem said:
The Law Minister and Barrister Muhammad FaroghNaseem said Nasir Butt’s action comes under contempt of court.
He said this comes under section 16B of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Ordinance and its penalty is six months.
“Whoever tries to scandalize NAB judges, courts and ridicule them, comes under contempt and can be punished for six months,” he added.
Talking about the Consequences:
The Minister said this attempt can lead to a lot of consequences for both; who has recorded the tape, and the other who is spreading it without an inquiry.
Would Nawaz Sharif get any benefit from this?
The Law Minister said this wouldn’t benefit Nawaz Sharif as the tape recording should have been presented earlier.
“If the recording was presented at very first instance, it would be admissible,” he said.
This is documentary evidence and it cannot deny the fact that Nawaz Sharif had been involved in money laundering and corruption cases. This matter should be investigated as blaming an Accountability Court Judge is a despicable attempt.
Arshad Malik rejected the claims of Maryam Nawaz:
In a press released, the Accountability Court Judge Arshad Malik rejected the claims of Maryam Nawaz. The judge said he had sentenced the Nawaz Sharif without any fear of favor. “Serious allegations were made against me,” he said.
The Judge said this attempt was a conspiracy to affect my credibility and was a despicable attempt.
He told that he was given threats of serious consequences while hearing of the cases against the former premier.
The judge concluded:
“The videos shown during the press conference are based on lies and assumptions, legal action should be taken against those individuals involved in this.”
PEMRA also took notice of live conference of Maryam Nawaz:
Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has taken notice of the live press conference of Maryam Nawaz. The authority has issued notices to TV channels for the unedited live telecast of Maryam Nawaz’s press conference against the judiciary.
