Pakistan Railways to install trackers – Passengers will track their trains.

After the successful launch of first ever dedicated freight train, Pakistan Railways is now set to install around 300 trackers in trains by the end of this month.

With the External Relations Group of Mercosur, Pakistan will sign a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) in early 2019 to bridge the trade deficit with countries of the Latin America trading bloc.

Mercosur – a trade bloc comprising Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay, and Venezuela, will look after the matter of examining Pakistan’s request in early 2019.

The purpose of trackers:

According to the statement by an official in the Railways Ministry, the trackers will help Pakistan Railways to monitor the movement and fuel expenditure of train.

These trackers will also enable the passengers to track the position and movements of trains while traveling.

He told that trackers have been handed over to Pakistan Railways by a local engineer free of charge.

The trackers will be installed in all the locomotives that would update the passengers about locations, upcoming stations and even the speed of their respective train.

He said, “Control Rooms in the Divisional Headquarters are also being updated so that the concerned staff on duty can check the trains’ position and take steps in case of emergency.”

Pakistan Railways to operate a Modern VVIP train:

With the help of five stars hotels, Pakistan Railways is planning to operate a modern VVIP train which will help the department to earn more revenue, the official revealed.

For this, administrations of some five stars hotel already contacted the Pakistan Railways for running a modern VVIP train. However, there is no final decision yet.

Progress made by Pakistan Railways in the previous four months:

In the first four months of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government, Pakistan Railways has earned Rs.1.5 billion in profit.

The profit was far higher than in the same period in 2017. 

In this time period, Pakistan Railways has reduced its huge debt and provided better facilities to the passengers.

New Trains:

As part of PTI’s 100-day agenda, the government launched new trains to deliver affordable and efficient transportation facilities to the people.

Further, The Railways Minister Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed is very much concerned about providing modern facilities to the passengers. Soon, all passenger trains will have the facility of Wi-Fi and tracking system.

Profit comparison:

During August 2017 to October 2017, Rs5.7 billion had been earned by Pakistan Railways whereas, from August 2018 to October 2018, Pakistan Railways earned Rs6.7 billion.

Pakistan Railways Collaboration with China:

Pakistan Railways, in collaboration with China, is planning to lay a high-speed double track from Karachi to Peshawar. However, the mode of financing for the project has yet to finalize, it will cost billions of rupees.

A dedicated Freight Train:

Recently on the launch of a dedicated freight train, the Railways Minister said that Pakistan Railways will earn Rs18 billion in revenue from cargo train operations.

The credit of all these achievements goes to the Minister for Railways Sheikh Rashid Ahmed. Prime Minister Imran Khan also praised his untiring efforts towards the betterment of Pakistan Railways.

In the next five years, Pakistan Railways is going to upgrade its track from Karachi to Peshawar via Lahore.
