Pakistan’s exports to the European Union reached 7.5 billion

  • EU Ambassador Androla Caminara said that Pakistan’s exports to European countries after gaining GSP Plus status  7.5 billion.

Pakistan’s exports to EU reach 7.5 billion after GSP Plus status

Addressing a meeting of the 4th Women’s Chamber of Commerce at the Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce organized by the International Chamber Summit, EU Ambassador Androla Caminara said that Pakistan’s exports to European countries after gaining GSP Plus status  7.5 billion.

EU Ambassador Androla Caminara said in her address that Pakistan was given the status of GSP Plus as a result of implementation of 27 conditions as Pakistan had already complied with most of them. After GSP Plus status in 2014, Pakistan’s annual exports to the EU were 7.5 billion, which was 34% of total exports.

He said that the European Union is a major buyer of Pakistan’s exports as 33% of them are exported to the United States and 8% to China. But he also said more attention needs to be paid to small and medium-sized industries.

Androla Caminara said that textile and leather products had just been given the status of GSP Plus, but that more exports could be boosted by focusing on embroidery, jeweleryand other related fields.

He further said that an EU delegation was assisting Pakistani exporters to further benefit from GSP Plus by linking small and medium enterprises to the EU. The delegation is focusing on areas such as handicrafts, tourism, jewelery.
