Prime Minister Imran Khan has directed strict action against the elements involved in smuggling.
According to a statement issued by the media wing of the Prime Minister’s Office, A high level meeting was held from Finance Minister Dr. Abdul Hafeez Sheikh, Information Minister Shibli Faraz, Trade Adviser Abdul Razzaq Dawood, Special Assistant to Shehzad Akbar, Special Assistant to Revenue Dr. Waqar Masood Khan, Secretaries of Commerce, Petroleum, Maritime Affairs and Home Affairs Division, Chairman.
FBR and senior civil and military officials attended the meeting, while provincial chief secretaries, Frontier Corps Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and IGs of Balochistan also attended the meeting through video link. The meeting was informed that the sale of smuggled oil was causing an annual loss of Rs 100-150 billion to the economy.
The meeting was informed that at present 2094 petrol pumps in the country are involved in the sale of smuggled oil. The Prime Minister said that irreparable damage was being done to the national economy due to smuggling. An amount of Rs. 35 crore has been sanctioned for the purchase of Electromedical Equipment for the Neurosurgery Department of Mayo Hospital. Rs. 70 million has been sanctioned for construction of Mianwali-Sargodha Road, Bhacharan 3 km road, Rs. A civil dispensary will be set up at Mouza Kar in Koh-e-Sulaiman Tehsil at a cost of Rs. 10 million. At a cost of Rs. 53 lakhs, Kharbazdar K BHU will be upgraded as a Corporal Health Center.
The construction of Gheel to Lieutenant Arsalan Alam Shaheed Sati House road in Murree will be done at a cost of Rs. 3.5 crore. Gulab Devi Hospital underpass on Ferozepur Road will be constructed at a cost of Rs. 95 crore. Rs 4.5 billion has been sanctioned for the construction of Sheeranwala flyover. The flyover at Shahkam Chowk will be constructed at a cost of Rs 38 billion.
