Urooj Aftab becomes The First Pakistani Singer To Win a Grammy Award
Pakistani-born American singer Urooj Aftab has won the award for Best Global Music Performance for her song ‘Mohabbat’ at The Grammy, the biggest awards in the world of music.
In the Grammy Awards Best Global Performance category, the song ‘Mohabbat’ was chosen.
Urooj Aftab wrote in an Instagram post that “And the first Pakistani woman is a Grammy winner is; Urooj Aftab!”
Fans, including celebrities, are congratulating the singer on her success.
Urooj Aftab’s ghazal was also considered as one of his favorite songs by former US President Barack Obama.
On the occasion, singer Urooj Aftab said that it is not a pleasure to hear of winning a Grammy Award.
It may be recalled that Urooj Aftab was nominated for the highest Grammy Award in the world of music. This was the first time that a singer of Pakistani origin was nominated in 2 categories.
Urooj Aftab, 37, hails from the Brooklyn area of New York. In her songs, Urooj harmonizes classical music with folk and jazz. Urooj Aftab’s parents are from Pakistan and she was born in Saudi Arabia.
