A thief from Gujranwala, whose antics during an ATM robbery had shot him to fame on social media, was arrested on 30th August.

A few days ago, a video went viral on social media showing a man stealing an ATM card after breaking open a machine in Faisalabad and sticking his tongue out in jest at the cameras.

On August 3o, he again entered an ATM booth, this time in Rahim Yar Khan. He was in the process of breaking the machine’s exterior when he was caught red-handed by other customers.

Identified as SalahuddinAyubi, this man belongs to Gujranwala’s Kamonkay district and was arrested on August 30. While in police custody, the man died on September 1.

According to police, SalahuddinAyubi was behaving like a mad man in lockup and he suddenly became unwell. Police told that the man was unconscious when he was shifted to the emergency ward of Sheikh Zayed Medical College Hospital where doctors confirmed his death.

The man was dead when he was brought to the hospital and according to the focal person for the hospital, Dr. Burhan Mustafa, the director of the emergency ward couldn’t comment on the condition in which he was brought to the hospital.

Police further said that the reason for SalahuddinAyubi’s death would be ascertained after a post-mortem report is issued. It also said that police DPO DPO Umar FarooqSalamat has constituted an inquiry team to look into the matter.
